‘Don’t turn a blind eye’ - Zelenskyy pleads for more air defense after latest RU mass missile attack
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy commented on “another vile missile attack” after Russia attacked critical infrastructure in the Kharkiv, Kyiv, Lviv, Odesa, and Zaporizhzhya oblasts.
Ukraine was able to shoot down part of the 40+ missiles and 40+ attack drones that the Russian terrorists fired at Ukraine on April 11, he said on Telegram.
"Unfortunately, only a part."
Each of Ukraine's "neighbors" in Europe and other international partners sees how desperately Ukraine needs air defense, Zelenskyy emphasized, and added that only by helping Ukraine can the world prove that everyone "equally sees terror as a crime."
"If Russia is allowed to continue doing this, if Russian missiles and rockets hit not only Ukraine, but also its partners’ determination, this will be a global license for terror."
Ukraine needs air defense systems and other defense support, "not turning a blind eye and long discussions", Zelenskyy added.
"We are grateful to everyone in the world who really effectively supports our Ukrainian struggle for life, to all the leaders who do not remain silent, who will continue to help us and condemn Russian terror," he wrote.
Russia’s mass missile & drone attack on April 11
Russia attacked Ukraine overnight on April 11 with Shahed kamikaze drones, cruise missiles from Tu-95MS aircraft, Kinzhal ballistic missiles from MiG-31K, and guided air missiles from Su-34 jets.
Poland scrambled aviation during this attack.
At least 10 strikes were recorded in Kharkiv and Oblast, bringing more problems with power to the city.
The city of Stryi in Lviv Oblast also witnessed powerful hits.
A rocket hit an energy facility in Zaporizhzhya Oblast.
A critical infrastructure facility was also attacked in Kyiv Oblast, igniting a fire, the Kyiv Regional Administration reported.
The energy infrastructure of four oblasts — Kyiv, Lviv, Zaporizhzhya, and Kharkiv — came under attack, Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko said. Two DTEK thermal power plants were seriously damaged.
Air Defense shot down 37 of 40 Shahed drones during the night and morning of April 11, General Staff reported.
Russia also attacked two critical energy infrastructure facilities in Lviv Oblast with cruise missiles, Lviv Governor Maksym Kozytskyi said:
- Gas distribution infrastructure near Stryi
- Power substation near Chervonohrad
