Ukraine takes out one third of Russia’s Black Sea Fleet – Navy spokesman
Ukrainian defenders have managed to disable a third of the Russian Black Sea Fleet's ships, Ukrainian Navy spokesperson Dmytro Pletenchuk said in an interview with news agency RBC-Ukraine on June 17.
"One third is definitely out of action – destroyed and damaged," he said.
The Ukrainian Armed Forces have officially destroyed 28 Russian ships, said the Navy spokesman.
"More than 10 more were under repair," Pletenchuk stated.
“But many of the ships that are now in service were also damaged. For example, both frigates Admiral Essen and Admiral Makarov. Many of the enemy's ships have already become familiar with drones and missiles. And some of them have already been repaired.”
Some of the enemy ships are still reportedly undergoing repairs, and some will be there for a long time due to serious damage.
Pletenchuk also mentioned strikes on Russian large landing ships.
"We waited for them to get them in order and then struck," the spokesman said.
“And it was extremely difficult to repair them because they are the 775 project, they are Polish-made. And the Poles, of course, refuse to service them. And they tried to buy some parts, substitutes, to circumvent the sanctions. Therefore, I do not think they will rush to repair these large landing ships now.”
The 28 destroyed Russian vessels at a certain period included some units such as boats, of which the aggressor state has a dozen and a half, Pletenchuk added.
"Starting with the flagship and ending with four second-rank large landing ships," he said.
“Only the cruiser Moskva was of the first rank. These are also the Rostov-on-Don submarine, Sergey Kotov, Ivanovets, Vasily Bekh, and others.”
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of June 17, Russia lost 28 warships and military boats in Ukraine.
