Ukraine's domestic arms industry is
producing eight Bohdana
self-propelled howitzers every month, The New York Times reported on April 2.
Prior to the Russian invasion in February 2022, Ukraine's Armed Forces had only one such howitzer in service.
The report states that in the past year, Ukraine's industrial output of armored vehicles has tripled compared with the period before 2022. Additionally, according to Ukrainian government documents reviewed by the journalists, domestic anti-tank missile production has quadrupled.
In December 2023, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced that the production of Bohdana howitzers had increased to six units a month. Bohdana is Ukraine's first howitzer fitted with a 155mm caliber gun to meet NATO standards. Until 2022, the Ukrainian military primarily used Soviet-era 152mm artillery barrels.
In an interview with Polish new agency PAP in June 2023, Strategic Industries Minister Oleksandr Kamyshin stated that Ukraine had achieved its first successes in weapons production, with a particular focus on missile development.
On Nov. 16, 2023, Kamyshin reported that Ukraine had begun mass-producing long-range kamikaze drones.
