Russia spares no expense on disinformation as it explores new narratives and platforms

Russia is sparing no expense in its pursuit of new disinformation tools, Andriy Yusov, a representative of Ukraine’s military intelligence or HUR, said on national television on Sept. 1.
Russia is actively searching for fresh voices willing to serve as “newsmakers” and is exploring new media platforms, whether knowingly or unknowingly, that could be used as forums for disseminating similar narratives, he said.
Some of the Kremlin’s influence agents have either been exposed or have lost their effectiveness, driving Russia to seek new methods to discredit Ukraine, he added.
Russia is unapologetic about allocating funds for this purpose, he said.
“No matter how much money is allocated for the information war – and we are talking tens of millions of dollars – it is always cheaper compared to the costs on the battlefield.”
Despite their high cost, Information Psychological Operations (IPSO) are more cost-effective than investing in the battlefield, said Yusov. For example, one hundred computers are cheaper than a single tank.
Previously, the HUR reported a meeting of Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s administration to discuss the next stage of the information war against Ukraine.
According to the HUR, it has been determined that the Russian disinformation system will soon focus on utilizing a range of new themes and narratives.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
