Ukrainian military has partial success near Klishchiyivka, says General Staff
Ukraine’s Defense Forces have had partial success near the village of Klishchiyivka, south of the war-torn town of Bakhmut, Donetsk Oblast, with heavy fighting ongoing there, Ukrainian General Staff spokesperson Andriy Kovaliov said on national television on July 7.
The Ukrainian military is putting pressure on Russian troops to the north and south of Bakhmut, trying to oust them from previously captured lines, Kovaliov said.
Ukrainian forces continue to conduct offensive operations in the Melitopol, Bakhmut and Berdyansk areas, consolidating their positions, inflicting fire damage with artillery on enemy targets, as well as conducting counter-battery fire, the spokesperson also noted.
At the same time, the Russian invaders are resisting and actively using reserves, he said.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian military continues to prevent invading Russian forces from advancing in the Lyman, Avdiyivka and Maryinka areas of the front line.
The Russian invaders have started leaving Klishchiyivka, according to reports on Russian social networks that started to appear on July 5.
Ukrainian forces are advancing in the south and in the east of Bakhmut, Ukrainian Deputy Defense Minister Hanna Malyar said on July 4. However, heavy fighting continues in the north.
At the same time, Russia is actively using chemical weapons against the Ukrainian military in the Bakhmut area, said Ukraine’s Operational Command Tavria spokesman Oleksiy Dmytrashkivskyi.
Dmytrashkivskyi on July 5 claimed the Russians had fired artillery shells containing lewisite – a chemical agent used in the First World War. It can cause blistering on the skin and mucous membranes on contact.
