Ukrainian Navy strikes Russian command ship Mekhanik Pogodin used as drone base

A Russian tanker Mekhanik Pogodin, which the Russian forces used as a command post, was destroyed by the Ukrainian Air Force on the Kinburn Spit on March 11, the Ukrainian Navy reported on Facebook on March 12.
The tanker Mekhanik Pogodin belonged to the Russian company VEB - Leasing OJSC, which was included in the sanctions list.
According to the decision of the Kherson District Administrative Court, the tanker was arrested in August 2018. Until the summer of 2023, it was located on the territory of the Kherson seaport.
After the Russian forces bombed the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant dam, the tanker washed up on the shore of the Kinburn Spit, which is temporarily controlled by the Russians, the Navy said.
The Russian military deployed an observation post for reconnaissance and electronic warfare equipment on the ship. The tanker was used to launch drone strikes in Kherson Oblast.
The destruction of the tanker Mekhanik Pogodin “not only prevented the invaders from implementing their plans, but was also carried out in full compliance with the norms of International Humanitarian Law.”
