Russia’s State Duma accuses the USA of spreading hogweed - video
The USA waged a kind of "bacteriological war" against the USSR, due to which the country was covered with thickets of hogweed (an enormous, invasive plant that can cause painful burns and scarring), United Russia deputy Timofey Bazhenov said.
Hogweed, which the Soviet authorities themselves actually imported from Kabardino-Balkaria as a fodder plant, was, in this version of events, part of some insidious American plan, the ultimate purpose of which, however, remains unclear, decades after the collapse of the Soviet empire.
"Wastelands, cemeteries, and all this land that was neglected for a long time was covered with hogweed. It cannot be totally excluded that all this was part of some kind of bacteriological war directed against us by the USA," claimed Bazhenov.
In a valiant attempt to battle this alleged Cold War bioweapon, the State Duma decided to adopt a law obliging gardeners to fight with hogweed on their land plots in order to finally thwart the enemy's plans.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
