‘Need it now, not after the eggnog’ – WH calls on Republicans to pass aid bill after Putin’s remarks

The White House is closely following Russian dictator Vladimir Putin’s statements about his objectives in the war on Ukraine and urging Congress not to delay the approval of aid for Ukraine, NSC Coordinator for Strategic Communications John Kirby said on Dec. 15.
“Nearly 20 months after he launched his brutal and barbaric invasion, Mr. Putin said today that — that his aggression in Ukraine will not end and there will only be peace, quote, ‘when our goals are achieved.’ End quote,” said Kirby.
“But I sure hope that those House Republicans who have, for months, held hostage critical assistance to Ukraine heard Putin’s message loud and clear.”
While members of the House of Representatives will be heading home this week for the Christmas holidays, the Ukrainian people will continue to endure shelling of peaceful cities, with Russia targeting critically important infrastructure, Kirby pointed out.
“They need our help. And they need it now, not after the eggnog,” he said.
“Putin is challenging the very international order that we helped build. He’s challenging the U.N. Charter. He’s challenging the very notion of sovereignty. He’s challenging democracy itself,” said Kirby.
“And make no mistake, Putin is not the only — he’s not the only one watching what’s going on here and how this plays out. Other nations, friend and foe alike, will certainly learn lessons from our own ability here to stand up or our inability to stand up,” he said.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
