Zelenskyy speaks with Trump after Putin call, Russian strikes on Kyiv
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held a phone call
with U.S. President Donald Trump on July 4, head of the Presidential Office
Andrii Yermak announced.
“It was a very important and meaningful conversation between
the presidents. All details — very soon,” Yermak wrote.
Journalist Barak Ravid, citing sources familiar with the discussion,
reported that
the two leaders talked for about 40 minutes and discussed Russia’s intensified
attacks on Ukraine and the supply of air defense systems.
According to one source, the presidents had “a good
conversation.”
The call came after Trump said he was “very disappointed” in
a conversation he had a day earlier with Russian dictator Vladimir Putin. Trump
said the July 3 call produced “no progress” toward a ceasefire in Ukraine.
“I’m very disappointed in the conversation I had today [July
3] with Putin… I don’t think he wants to stop, and that’s very bad,” the U.S.
president said.
On
the night of July 4, Russia launched a massive combined attack on Kyiv.
Officials reported 26 people injured and one person killed. Debris fell in five
city districts, sparking multiple fires.
On July 3, Zelenskyy commented on the halt in U.S. military
assistance and said he hoped to discuss the matter with Trump “tomorrow or in
the coming days.” He added that Trump and the Russian dictator have little in
common, calling them “very different people.”
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
