Ukraine will keep fighting even without aid, it can’t afford to lose — Zelenskyy

Ukraine may have to fight against Russia independently, similarly to the early days of the full-scale invasion, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said during a joint briefing with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre on Dec. 13.
“It was challenging and very difficult — a tragic period for us and our people, and you saw how it was for us. We were almost occupied,” Zelenskyy said.
“But we didn’t run away, didn’t leave, and accepted this battle. So, when you ask if it’s possible to do it without assistance... It is possible to do it as it was.”
“I mean, it’s tough; you lose a lot of people. And if you don’t want to lose the lives of your people, children... You definitely need a real, powerful defense shield. Starting with planes and ending with artillery,” said Zelenskyy.
“You cannot win without help, but you also cannot afford to lose.”
Concerns over dwindling support for Ukraine were underscored by a study by the Kiel Institute for World Economy, revealing a nearly 90% drop in aid from partners between August and October 2023 compared to the same period last year.
A $106 billion aid bill, which included provisions for Ukraine, Israel, and Taiwan, faced procedural hurdles in the U.S. Senate on Dec. 6.
The setback was attributed to Republican insistence on a stricter immigration policy. U.S. President Joe Biden urged Congress to swiftly pass the aid package to avoid the deployment of American troops in the conflict.
The impasse stemmed from Republicans’ focus on border security and immigration, leading to a deadlock with Democrats. The failure to reach an agreement raises concerns about the continuity of support for Ukraine amid heightened tensions with Russia.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
