Energy Minister outlines ambitious wind power projects for 2025
Energy Minister Herman Halushchenko announced plans to build over 800 MW of wind power generation in 2025 in his interview with the Ukrinform news agency published on Nov. 15.
The plan was discussed with “Norwegian colleagues, who are now considering a large 300 MW project in Ukraine.”
“We expect that next year, programs for households will be actively launched. We really hope that people will install solar panels, because the government is creating such an opportunity, and banks have united to offer loans at a zero interest for 10 years,” he said.
However, the main priority for next year will continue to be the development of wind energy and the implementation of already planned projects in this sector.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy had previously announced Ukraine's intention to build up to 1 GW of gas-fired flexible generation in 2024 with the support of partners, and a further 4 GW in the future.
On Nov. 17, emergency power outages were implemented in Kyiv and across multiple Ukrainian regions following a massive missile and drone attack by Russian forces.
According to Halushchenko, Russian forces targeted power generation and transmission facilities across the country.
