Drone strike sparks fire at fuel oil terminal in Novorossiysk

An overnight drone strike in Novorossiysk, Krasnodar Krai, set fire to a fuel oil terminal on September 9, according to independent monitoring channels.
Novorossiysk Mayor Andrey Kravchenko confirmed that an attack took place on the city. He stated that drone debris fell on the grounds of several local businesses and near a residential building. However, Kravchenko did not specify which facilities were hit.
“Emergency services have been deployed to clean up the area. Information regarding any additional damage is still being gathered,” he said.
Novorossiysk Fuel Oil Terminal LLC is a key facility within the city’s transport hub. The company is part of the Novorossiysk Commercial Sea Port, which is Russia’s largest seaport.
August 12 strike on Novorossiysk
A massive overnight drone attack struck Novorossiysk in Russia's Krasnodar Krai on August 12, with local monitoring channels reporting that a grain elevator at the local port was hit.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukrainian forces struck Russia’s naval base in Novorossiysk with Palianytsia UAVs, Neptune missiles, and naval drones in what he called a “unique operation”. The attack hit the Russian fleet’s last major outpost in the Black Sea – more than 300 kilometers from the front line. He later added that the attack included the Palianytsia, Peklo, and Bars strike drones, R-360 Neptune cruise missiles, plus the naval drones Sargan and Mamai.
Analysts at CyberBoroshno concluded that the strikes damaged grain, fuel, and oil export terminals, as well as two Black Sea Fleet frigates.
The operation in particular targeted the frigates Admiral Makarov and Admiral Essen. Both ships were observed with damage near the launchers for Kalibr cruise missiles. Each frigate carries eight launch cells.
CyberBoroshno added that other vessels were also possibly hit, including a Project 266M minesweeper, the research vessel Viktor Cherokov (Project 20360 OS), a Project 22160 patrol ship, the intelligence ship Priazovya (Project 864), and an unidentified dry-cargo vessel.
Reuters reported two of Russia's largest grain terminals in the port of Novorossiysk suspended operations following the attack.
Ukrainian defense forces paralyzed all shipping traffic at the port of Novorossiysk, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced on August 28.
