An 83-year-old retired FSB general was found dead in Moscow (Photo: Russian media)
Retired FSB Maj. Gen. Igor Laptev, 83, was found dead in Moscow on Aug. 21 in what Russian media described as an apparent suicide.
Laptev was found in his apartment on Verkhnyaya Krasnoselskaya Street in Moscow.
Preliminary reports said he died from a gunshot wound to the head.
No further details about the circumstances of the former FSB general’s death have been reported.
Russian state and pro-Kremlin media said Laptev had served in the war in Afghanistan before spending many years in the KGB and later the FSB, where he worked in the field of “information security.”
In the late 1990s, he also served as a deputy minister for taxes and levies in Russia.
Laptev became chairman of the board of directors of Informtekhnika & Communications in 1998.
The company develops and manufactures secure professional communications systems for government and corporate customers.
Its major clients have included Russia’s Defense Ministry, Interior Ministry and the St. Petersburg telephone network.
Another former Russian executive found dead in July
On July 21, 57-year-old Alexei Korshenko was found dead in Moscow.
Korshenko had previously served as deputy CEO of Avia Group, which operates VIP terminals at Moscow’s Sheremetyevo Airport and St. Petersburg’s Pulkovo Airport.
Russian media reported that Korshenko was found hanging from a balcony and described his death as suicide.
His friends, however, reportedly questioned that version of events.
