Trump insists Putin ‘kept his word’ on energy truce, contradicting Zelenskyy

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin honored the agreed-upon terms of a temporary “energy truce” with Ukraine, U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on Feb. 3.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy earlier pointed out that Russia paused regular attacks on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure for only four days, hitting central heating facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv, and Dnipro with a flurry of missiles and drones on Feb. 3.
Speaking at the White House, Trump said the pause in Russian strikes on Ukraine’s civilian infrastructure lasted from Sunday, Jan. 24, to Sunday, Feb. 1—exactly the seven-day period he claimed had been negotiated with Putin.
““It was Sunday to Sunday, and it opened up; and he hit them hard last night,” he told reporters.
“He kept his word on that. It was — it’s a lot, you know, one week. We’ll take anything, because it’s really, really cold over there, but it was on Sunday, and he went from Sunday to Sunday.”
Trump also hinted at a recent call with Putin but did not provide a date.
In the early hours of Feb. 3, exploiting freezing temperatures, Russia launched a new, massive assault on Ukraine’s energy facilities. In several waves, Moscow fired ballistic missiles, Shahed drones and air-launched Kh-22 and Kh-101 missiles.
Energy Minister Denys Shmyhal said Russian forces attacked eight regions of Ukraine, targeting apartment blocks, power plants and district heating facilities in Kyiv, Kharkiv and Dnipro with various ballistic and cruise missiles and drones.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
