Ukrainian troops continue active defensive operations in designated areas of Russia’s Kursk and Belgorod oblasts, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy wrote on April 27.
He made this statement following a briefing by Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi.
"Our forces continue active defensive operations in designated areas of the Kursk and Belgorod oblasts," Zelenskyy confirmed.
He added that the situation remains challenging on multiple frontline sectors, with the heaviest fighting taking place in the Pokrovsk, Kramatorsk, Lyman, and Kursk directions.
Earlier, Chief of the Russian General Staff Valery Gerasimov claimed that on April 26 Russian forces had "liberated" the last settlement in Kursk Oblast — Gornal. However, Ukraine’s General Staff refuted the claim, stating that it does not reflect reality.
"The operational situation remains challenging, but our units continue to hold designated positions and carry out their assigned missions," Ukraine’s military highlighted.
Meanwhile, analysts from the DeepState project also reported that Russian claims of fully "liberating" Kursk Oblast and pushing out Ukrainian defense forces are not accurate. However, they noted that Russian troops continue efforts to advance and entrench themselves in Sumy Oblast.
