Zelenskyy warns Russia may mobilize 300,000 after parliamentary ‘elections’

A new mobilization wave could begin in Russia after the
State Duma “elections,” with the Kremlin expected to conduct it mainly in the
regions. Russia’s plan for 2026 is to mobilize about 300,000 additional people.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy discussed the
possible mobilization while speaking to reporters, NV reports.
He said he had received a briefing on the matter from Armed
Forces Commander-in-Chief Mykhailo Drapatyi.
Referring to Russian dictator Vladimir Putin, Zelenskyy
said: “Putin’s bet is clear — ballistic missile strikes. Next come the
‘elections’ in Russia. We are confident they will mobilize after the
‘elections.’ We believe it will not happen in the central cities. But I don’t
think they will be able to hide it very well.”
Zelenskyy added that Russia was planning what he called a
“peripheral mobilization.”
“What they want today is an additional 300,000 in 2026, plus
more in 2027. The goal was half a million. Their strategy for 2026 now is to
send an additional 300,000 people to the front,” the Ukrainian leader said.
Zelenskyy said Russia’s occupying army had lost 267,000
military personnel since the start of the year, including about 155,000
irrecoverable losses.
During the same conversation with reporters, he said
Ukraine’s Defense Forces had struck
an Iskander launcher near the border on Aug. 22 that Russian forces use to
attack Ukraine.
Zelenskyy also confirmed that the Defense Forces had almost
completely liberated Dnipropetrovsk Oblast.
On Aug. 8, Zelenskyy said Putin was seeking a way to conduct
a covert mobilization campaign in Russia without formally announcing it. The
Kremlin also continues to involve North Korea in its war against Ukraine.
On Aug. 11, Zelenskyy said Russia was preparing a
mobilization wave for the fall of 2026, immediately after what he called “sham
parliamentary elections.” He said internal Russian documents obtained by
Ukrainian intelligence confirmed the plan.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
