The Save Pets of Ukraine social initiative has released step-by-step instructions for people who are ready to help shelters where pets have been evacuated from flooded regions.
Volunteers from all over the country went to Kherson Oblast to help rescuers evacuate people and their pets. The animal protection community has united to provide emergency care and shelter to four-legged friends rescued from flooded regions.
Volunteers managed to evacuate more than 1,500 pets on June 6-8. They were transported to Mykolayiv, Zaporizhzhya, Dnipro, Kryvyi Rih, Cherkasy, Kyiv, Kirovohrad Oblast, and the city of Kyiv.
As the number of pets in shelters has increased significantly, there are not enough staff to give each enough attention. Therefore, the Save Pets of Ukraine initiative calls on everyone to help shelters not only with donations, but also with your time and presence.
The Save Pets of Ukraine team created a volunteer’s guide — an instruction manual for good deeds for our four-legged friends.
This is a collection of advice based on the real needs of shelters about what work can and should be done in shelters, how to prepare for a visit, how to help remotely, what to wear, what to bring. The guide also provides advice from zoopsychologist Oksana Halan on how to establish initial contact with animals.
Volunteers rescuing animals from Kherson Oblast are looking for temporary homes or places to stay, so the Save Pets of Ukraine team has created a list of shelters and vet clinics that have already accepted and are ready to provide shelter to rescued four-legged friends.
