Drones strike major Russian refinery hub in Tatarstan

Drones struck the industrial zone of Nizhnekamsk, in Russia's Tatarstan Republic, overnight into Sept. 13, an area home to some of Russia's largest oil refineries, according to Telegram channels Exilenova+ and Astra.
Locals said they could hear drones flying over the city overnight, followed by a series of explosions. Witnesses also reported Russian air defense systems operating in the area of the industrial cluster.
Nizhnekamsk hosts one of Russia's largest oil-refining hubs, including TANECO (part of Tatneft), the TAIF-NK refinery, Nizhnekamskneftekhim, and other facilities.
TANECO ranks among Russia's five largest oil refineries, with a designed processing capacity of more than 16 million tons of crude oil per year. Nearby is TAIF-NK, capable of processing more than 7 million tons of oil and gas condensate annually.
Another major industrial facility in the Nizhnekamsk industrial zone is Nizhnekamskneftekhim. The company is part of the Sibur petrochemical holding and ranks among Europe's largest petrochemical enterprises. It effectively holds a monopoly position in the Russian market for several types of synthetic rubber and plastics.
