Defense expert names likely aims of Ukrainian counteroffensive

Ukraine is focusing on defeating enemy forces in the direction of the battle of Bakhmut, even if it concentrates forces in Donetsk Oblast, military expert for Ukrainian military-focused publication Defense Express, Ivan Kirichevskiy, said on Radio NV on June 11.
He noted that there’s no need for Ukrainians to interfere if the Russians believe that the battle for Bakhmut is still ongoing.
“If they’ve decided that this is their Stalingrad, then the Ukrainian Armed Forces are currently doing everything in their power to ensure that the Russian army plays the role there of Field Marshal (Friedrich) Paulus (the Nazi commander during the World War 2 siege of Stalingrad - ed.),” Kirichevskiy said.
“It turns out that the circle of occupiers in the ruin of Bakhmut – these are, possible the largest and most important result of counter-offensive activities on the Donetsk direction at the moment.”
As of June 12, Ukrainian forces are continuing counter-offensive actions and counterattacks in at least three directions: on the outskirts of Bakhmut, western Zaporizhzhya Oblast, and on the border of Donetsk and Zaporizhzhya oblasts.
While the Ukrainian government has not made the results of these battles public, reports have emerged of Ukraine liberating the village of Velyka Novoselka in western Donetsk Oblast.
According to the representative of Ukraine’s Eastern Grouping of Troops, Serhiy Cherevatiy, Ukrainian forces managed to push the front in Bakhmut by 250 to 700 meters in a single day, killing 66 invaders, wounding a further 83, and capturing 3 as prisoners of war.
In addition, Ukrainian forces in the Bakhmut direction destroyed two enemy infantry fighting vehicles, two enemy armored personnel carriers, two self-propelled Nona mortars, a D-30 howitzer, an anti-tank missile system, and an ammunitions dump.
The military war may be swinging in our favor, but the information war continues.
