Poland is considering transferring its
remaining Soviet-era anti-aircraft
missiles to Ukraine, Polish President Andrzej Duda said on April 11.
“We discussed with [Ukrainian President] Volodymyr Zelenskyy certain missile stockpiles that we have from Soviet times,” Duda said at join press conference with Zelenskyy and Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda.
“Poland has them at our disposal. We discussed the possibility of transferring them to Ukraine. I will be preparing this with my defense minister when I return to Warsaw.”
At the same time, Duda said that Poland itself does not possess Patriot air defense systems, with the several Patriots currently deployed in Poland being operated by the United States and the UK. He noted that Poland is also under threat of Russian missile attacks and thus requires the U.S.-made air defense systems for protection.
Earlier on April 11, the European Parliament decided not to approve the EU Council's budget until member states can find additional Patriot systems for Ukraine.
