German police arrest three more teens in stabbing death of 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player
Three more teenagers have been arrested in Germany in connection with the stabbing 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player Volodymyr Yermakov to death in Dusseldorf, DW reported on Feb. 16.
According to law enforcement officials, they are a 14-year-old German of Greek descent from Herne and two Syrians aged 14 and 15 from Gelsenkirchen. They are suspected of complicity in Yermakov's murder.
Investigators still consider a 15-year-old German of Turkish descent, who was arrested on Feb. 11, to be the main suspect in the murder.
Volodymyr Ermakov, a 17-year-old member of the Ukrainian national basketball team, was fatally stabbed in Germany, the Kyiv Basketball Federation reported on Feb. 11 on Facebook.
The attack, which also left his friend Artem Kozachenko severely injured, was allegedly motivated by their Ukrainian nationality.
The killer of 17-year-old Ukrainian basketball player Volodymyr Yermakov has been detained in Germany, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Oleh Nikolenko reported on Facebook on Feb. 12.
Yermakov was a member of the Ukrainian U-16 national team and played at the 2022 European Basketball Championship in Bulgaria.
