Ukrainian military counters claims of successful strike on Russian ship
Information that Ukrainian Armed Forces struck a Russian Ropucha-type landing ship in the Sea of Azov on June 8 is not true, said Dmytro Pletenchuk, head of the Communications Center of Southern Defense Forces, in a comment to LIGA.net on June 10.
“Unfortunately, as of now, this is the news from future,” he said.
There are currently three Russian large amphibious assault ships and three small missile ships, including the Buyan-M project, in the Sea of Azov.
“But the information about the damage is not yet true,” Pletenchuk added.
A Ukrainian military source told the newspaper that the vessel was allegedly the fifth of seven Ropucha-type landing craft to be sunk or “disabled” by Ukrainian Armed Forces.
According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, as of June 10, Russians lost 28 ships and boats in total.
