Ukraine slows Russian advance in Donetsk to prevent further gains, says Musienko
Oleksandr Musienko, head of the Center for Military Legal Studies, explained on Radio NV why Russian forces are continuing their offensive in Donetsk Oblast.
Musienko said the enemy is likely to continue its offensive operations, particularly in Donetsk, due to its perceived potential for success. He believes the enemy will persist with its offensive efforts as long as it has any capability to do so.
Musienko explained that the Ukrainian Armed Forces are working to slow the enemy's advance. He acknowledged that some withdrawal from positions in Donetsk is necessary to maintain combat effectiveness. During these withdrawals, Ukrainian forces aim to weaken the enemy and eventually halt their progress.
He also noted that efforts are underway to improve the positioning of Ukrainian troops by establishing strong defensive positions. Ukrainian military intelligence predicts that the Russian offensive might slow by mid-September as Russian forces experience increased losses.
Musienko also believes that liberating Crimea will be easier than retaking Donetsk. He emphasized the need to focus on stopping the enemy, building up reserves, and conducting long-range strikes before reassessing the strategy based on battlefield developments.
