Zelenskyy on Trump dispute: ‘I understand the reason but won’t talk about it’
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said he understands the reasons behind his recent dispute with U.S. President Donald Trump and Vice President J.D. Vance but declined to discuss the incident. Speaking to Ukrainian and British journalists after a summit in London on March 3, Zelenskyy stressed the need to focus on constructive diplomacy.
"I don't want to discuss what happened. I don't think this is the right format for building strong relations," Zelenskyy said. "I'm confident this situation will pass. More important things lie ahead, and if we all remain constructive, I believe we can achieve positive results."
Avoiding specifics but emphasizing partnership
While Zelenskyy acknowledged that he understood the reasons behind the dispute, he chose not to elaborate. Instead, he underscored the importance of maintaining open and constructive dialogue with allies, particularly the United States, and reminded reporters not to lose sight of who the real aggressor is.
Zelenskyy also reaffirmed his willingness to engage in meaningful discussions with Trump.
"I am the president of Ukraine, and I believe our country is not better than others, but certainly not worse," he stated. "From the very start of the war, I have done everything to prove that. We deserve a dialogue on equal terms. So if the president of the United States invites me for constructive talks… I represent a country that is highly dependent on support and partnership. Of course, if I’m invited to a discussion to resolve real problems, to address serious issues with concrete actions and answers, I will be there."
